Privacy Policy

Exemplifi Transit Alerts is a rider notification service operated by Exemplifi ("we," "us") on behalf of the transit agency whose website you subscribed on ("the Agency"). This policy explains what personal information we collect when you sign up for transit alerts, how we use it, and the choices you have. We built this service to collect as little about you as possible.

1. The alerts program

The Exemplifi Transit Alerts program sends informational service notifications — delays, detours, disruptions, planned service changes, and restored-service notices — for the routes you select or for all routes if you choose to receive everything. Messages are sent by email, SMS text message, and/or website (browser) push, based on the channels you turn on. Message frequency varies with real-time service conditions and the routes you follow. This is a transactional, informational program only; we do not send marketing or promotional messages through it.

2. What we collect

To run the alerts program we collect only what a notification needs: Your contact identifiers — the email address and/or mobile phone number you enter, so we can deliver alerts. Your alert preferences — the routes you select (or your choice to receive all alerts), the channels you enable, and options like quiet hours. Delivery and consent records — the date, time, and method of your opt-in and confirmation, and delivery status such as bounces or opt-outs, which we keep to honor your choices and to demonstrate consent. Limited technical data — for website push, a browser push token and basic device/browser type. We do not collect or require your name, mailing address, account login, password, date of birth, or payment information for this program.

3. How we use it

We use your information only to operate the alerts you asked for: to send you transit notifications for your selected routes, to honor your channel and quiet-hours preferences, to run required opt-in confirmation and unsubscribe handling, and to keep the service reliable and free of abuse. We do not use your contact information to build advertising or marketing profiles.

6. How we protect it

We minimize and protect what we store. Your email address and phone number are encrypted at rest, and we index them for lookup using a one-way HMAC hash rather than storing them in plain text where they can be browsed. Access to subscriber data is restricted and logged. Because we deliberately avoid collecting names, passwords, and account credentials, there is far less about you at risk if anything ever goes wrong.

7. Retention & deletion

We keep your subscription and consent records for as long as you are subscribed, and for a limited period afterward to honor opt-outs and meet our legal and audit obligations. When you unsubscribe, we add your identifier to a suppression list that Exemplifi maintains as the single source of truth, so you stay unsubscribed across every channel and agency. You may request deletion of your data at any time using the contact details below.
